How to Request a Letter of Recommendation?
Whether it is for a college, scholarship, internship or job application, letters of recommendation or references are almost always required.
When asking for a letter of recommendation have the following ready:
Make a list of your strengths, interests, accomplishments, goals, etc.
Ask at least 2 teachers from different subject areas (Humanities v. Sciences)
Provide a deadline, your list and specific things you are looking for
Having a short meeting may help w/ refreshing the persons memory of what makes you stand out and help provide specific anecdotes they can include
What Should be in Your Letter of Recommendation?
A good recommendation later makes you stand out and will leave a lasting impression. Having a discussion with the person who is writing you a letter of recommendation will really help them provide specific things about you and help them avoid assigning general adjectives to describe you.
Make sure to not only have a list of your strengths, interests, accomplishments, etc., but also be sure to bring up specific things that the person might have witnessed or seen you be a part of to get the most out of your recommendation.
